Subocean Group Wins Best Renewables Company

Subocean, a market-leading subsea construction company in marine renewables, has won the prestigious Best Company accolade at last night’s (Thursday, June 10)  esteemed Renewable Energy Association’s (REA) British Renewable Energy Awards.

The Aberdeen-headquartered company picked up the top title at the fifth REA annual awards ceremony, which honour outstanding achievements in the British Renewable energy sector.

Subocean won the Company award in recognition of its carefully engineered business plan and innovative approach, which has achieved tremendous results through significant and high-profile contract wins.

Subocean Group is industry-recognised as one of the UK’s leading renewable companies, specialising in high performance subsea cable installation and burial solutions. The company, which is the main sponsor of this month’s RenewableUK Offshore Wind Conference in Liverpool, is currently working on high-profile projects including Thanet and Greater Gabbard also having conducted the Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Robin Rigg and Rhyl Flats projects in the past two years.

Over the past two years, Subocean has experienced rapid growth by doubling the size of its Aberdeen premises and increasing its employees to 100 onshore and 300 offshore. The company, which has a turnover of £1million, has also expanded into Europe by opening an office in Bremenhaven, Germany.

This week, Subocean also announced that it is to set up a workshop and equipment store at Great Yarmouth’s EastPort UK, utilising both the outer harbour and river facilities as part of its new operations base.

Last night’s award is the latest in a succession of accolades bestowed on Subocean. They include: Best Renewable Company (Scottish Renewables Green Energy Award 2008); Outstanding Industry Contribution (Scottish Renewables’ Green Energy Awards 2009); and Best Renewable Company (Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s Northern Star awards 2009).
